Become a member of ICLV
At ICLV we invite people who faithfully attend our fellowship to enter into a covenant relationship with our church.
Overview
At the International Church of Las Vegas we invite people who faithfully attend our fellowship to enter into a covenant relationship with our church. Beyond the legal business requirements, we seek for our members to have relationship and commitment to the Body of Christ as expressed at ICLV. Beyond just attending, we’re looking for people who really want to put their heart into what God is doing here.
Is Membership Just an Institution of Man?
Actually, no. The very term membership, even in secular organizations, is originally a Biblical concept. Romans chapter 12 introduces the idea of membership in that we are many members (parts), but one Body (Rom. 12:4-5). Although there are some legal, business requirements for us as a church, the primary reason for membership is to ask people to enter into a covenant relationship with other like-minded believers in Jesus Christ.
What is Required to Become a Member?
First of all, you need to have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and surrendered your life to Him. Secondly, according to Biblical requirements, you must also have be water baptized by immersion after you accepted Jesus. Third, you need to have a serious desire to be part of fulfilling the vision of the International Church of Las Vegas. And finally, you’ll need to participate in the following events:
- Pastor’s Class – This is a four-evening class of fellowship and vision. The class is hosted by Pastor Tim Roberson on Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm in the VIP room at the Summerlin Campus. During the class the pastors will share the history and vision of our church.
- 30-day Spiritual Journey – This four-week class is usually offered on Sunday Mornings at the Summerlin Campus as part of the Morning Mentoring class lineup. The content of this class was written by Pastor Paul Goulet and will help you explore your concept of God and how to relate to him. The class will explore healthy relationships, not only with our Heavenly Father, but also with others. The class is currently being taught by Shirley Wickson at 9:00 am on the Summerlin Campus, and will commence again on September 18, 2011.
- Membership Class – This eight-week course will help impart the spiritual “DNA” of ICLV to you as well as explore spiritual gifts, discuss the apostolic and prophetic expression of our church, share the missions vision of the church, and explain our emphasis on leadership. Mihai and Kiersten Banica are scheduled to start a new session again on September 18, 2011 on the Summerlin Campus at 9:00 am. As part of this class, we’ll ask you to complete a spiritual gifts test, which can indicate how God has gifted you for His Kingdom.
After the successful attendance and completion on these three courses, the Membership Team will arrange for you to be interviewed by a member of the ICLV Board. The purpose of the interview is to get to know you, reaffirm your commitment to the church, and try to help you discover where at ICLV might best fit your desire for ministry. After the interview, your name will be added to the list of membership candidates, and at a meeting of the Board of ICLV, the Board will vote on your candidacy according to the recommendation of the interviewer. Once the Board has voted you in, you’re a Member of ICLV!
Following your acceptance, we will have a New Member recognition time, usually during a Sunday or Wednesday night service.
Why is Membership Required to be a Leader at ICLV?
Membership is required because we want to make sure those leading in our congregation are committed to the fellowship and have our spiritual DNA. We also want to try and assure that our leaders have a healthy concept of God that they can pass on to others.
Are There Any Advantages to Membership?
Yes. One of the important advantages of membership is the ability to vote in church business matters. Because ICLV is a legal corporation within Nevada, our constitution and by-laws that certain functions of the church be approved by a vote of the membership such as ratification of Board members, purchase of real estate, etc.
Beyond the business of the church, membership opens the door for leadership and full participation in the vision and direction of ICLV.
